According to the Bible, What Do I Gain from Rebuking My Friend? (Part 3/3)

Until now, we talked about how to avoid hatred. Now, the Torah tells us how to reach love for others.

First, we must remove vengeance (hatred in action) and then grudges (hatred in the heart without action):

לֹֽא־תִקֹּ֤ם וְלֹֽא־תִטֹּר֙ אֶת־בְּנֵ֣י עַמֶּ֔ךָ

You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against any of your people

Just as we don’t take revenge on ourselves, tend to forget our own wrongdoings, and forgive ourselves, we should do the same for others and love them as we love ourselves:

וְאָֽהַבְתָּ֥ לְרֵעֲךָ֖ כָּמ֑וֹךָ

but you shall love your neighbor as yourself

By removing hatred and vengeance, we can truly love.

In the video: We will read these verses together.

Sending you Shabbat Shalom from Israel,

The whole idea comes from the book of my beloved teacher, Prof. Baruch Schwartz: The Holiness Legislation.
