How do I pronounce God's name in Hebrew, and why? 🤔

There is considerable discussion in the Christian world about how to pronounce the name of God.

Of course, everyone can choose how they want to pronounce it — I don’t want to start big arguments.

But I do want to remind you of one important thing — something that maybe some people have forgotten.

The Bible that most of the world uses today originated from a reading and writing tradition, passed down to us in the second half of the first millennium by a group of scribes from Tiberias.

They wrote the name of God in the usual way: YHWH (יהוה), and they added vowel marks — similar to the vowels in the word Adonai (אֲדֹנָי).

This means the name of God comes with a tradition of how to pronounce it.

From an objective point of view, without adding personal interpretations, we should read it as Adonai.

Just like those scribes taught us how to read even simple words like "et" (את),

they also taught us how to pronounce the name of God.
